Day 58: Darwin

Plan for today was to go to the Botanical Gardens - unfortunately weather got in the way -- I walked out of the hotel and heard a huge crack of thunder -- the sky to the North was ominously dark (although mostly sunny to the South).  So instead I went out for lunch and a short walk -- and didn't do much else for the day (except for a lot of laundry).  Tomorrow I'm on the train to Alice Springs -- not sure if I'll have any wi-fi access -- so might not be able to post again until Thursday.

'Chinute Chinute' is a Larrakia spiritual ancestor who exists within the sacred site known as Stokes Hill adjacent to this walkway. This ancestor manifests itself from time to time as the Tawny Frogmouth and stands as sentinel to the Waterfront area.

The Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) is an Australian species of frogmouth, a type of bird found throughout the Australian mainland, Tasmania and southern New Guinea. The Tawny Frogmouth is often mistaken for an owl. Many Australians refer to the Tawny Frogmouth by the colloquial names of "Mopoke" or "Morepork", which usually are common alternative names for the Southern Boobook. Frogmouths are not raptorial birds.

Book/s Read:  I Shall Not Want by Julia Spencer-Fleming.  6th book in the Rev. Clare Fergusson / Russ Van Alstyne series.  I've decided to read the series straight through (well I started a little off by reading the last one (#8) first).
