Enjoyed my last day in a hotel room sleeping on a real bed (well at least for the next 3 weeks).
I've mapped out the first week of my RV road-trip. The only real constraint I have is the ferry crossing from the North Island to the South Island on March 1 (and I guess I could change that if need be). I have tonight booked in a camp in Paihia --- and the last night of my trip booked in Christchurch. I'll wing the rest of the nights -- there are tons of camp sites here -- and it's just past busy season.
Only other things I did yesterday was watch the Olympics and read 'The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks'. Olympic coverage here is interesting -- so few Kiwis in the Winter Olympics -- and we are ahead of Russia in terms of time zones -- so things playing at odd times. I really liked the first 25% of 'The Immortal Life' --- but now I find it a bit of a slog -- not sure if I'll persevere.
And yes --- they really do call themselves "Kiwis" -- after the bird -- not the fruit.
Oh ... and I did have some delicious French Fries (or Chips as they are called here) .... cooked in Duck Fat (eek! really need to walk more)
note: the last picture was taken Friday morning -- it's going to be a beautiful day for a drive. Longish drive today -- about 4 hours to Paihia. Not sure how much I'll be able to post -- but will at least put something out each day indicating what city I'm in -- and then update when I find good wifi.
Weather: cloudy/spitting rain, 70 - 73F
Miles Walked: 1.5
