Day 3: Sydney

Skies were overcast in the morning -- so I decided to go to the zoo (vs. going to Bondi or Manly Beach).  Walked down to Circular Quay (< 2 blocks) and hopped on a ferry over to the zoo (it's on the other side of the harbor).

The Taronga Zoo is in a beautiful location -- right on the water -- and up a big hill (after you get off the ferry, you take a gondola up to the top of the hill to the main zoo entrance).  I've been to better zoos -- but the location made up for everything.  Spent a couple of hours at the zoo and then hopped on a ferry back to Circular Quay.  Grabbed lunch at a restaurant on the harbor -- and then walked over to the botanical gardens -- walked around for awhile and then found a bench in the shade and read for awhile (and had a wonderful view -- see last picture). Nice thing about a 3 month holiday -- no need to pack a ton of tourist things into a single day.

Discovered that the sun is very strong in Sydney -- even when it's cloudy -- and that I better start wearing more sunscreen and a hat.

Zoo pictures:  koala, echidna, tasmanian devil

Weather:  cloudy, sunny, cloudy, 75 - 80F
Wine:  Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc (nice but not great)
Miles Walked:  5.7
Transportation:  2 ferries
