Quiet day today. Forecast was for rain the whole day -- fortunately that didn't happen -- but it was the overcast the whole day -- and very humid. Walked around "The Rocks" in the morning and then spent the afternoon at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA).
The Rocks is right next to Circular Quay and is the site of Sydney's first European settlement (1788). It remained a commercial and maritime hub until shipping services moved from Circular Quay in the late 1800s. There was a bubonic plague breakout in 1900 which hastened its decline. And then the Harbor Bridge was built in 1920s -- which pretty much finished things off. In the 1970s, the area was redeveloped -- with many of the remaining buildings restored. Kind of a tourist trap -- but if you ignore all of the stores -- it's a nice walk.
The MCA is small but has some nice collections. I especially liked the aboriginal art. The Yoko Ono "War is Over" exhibition was very strange. Overall though -- a good way to spend a gloomy afternoon.
Also watched 2 groups climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge (something that I have no interest in doing!)
Weather: cloudy, 70-75F
Wine: Mud House (NZ) Sauvignon Blanc (excellent!)
Miles Walked: 5
