Day 34: Nelson

8pm:  The big storm is moving in -- no rain yet, just strong winds (44 km/h, gusting up to 65km/h).  I'm preparing for the power to go out.  Glad I brought a headlamp with me!  The people who own the cottage are very nice --- they've called me 2x to make sure I'm ok.  Fortunately I went grocery shopping -- so have fruit, bread, and cheese -- so I won't go hungry.  I had a great day -- will post more more later.

Spent the day walking around Nelson City.  I walked around town and then checked out the Saturday market -- small but some really nice fruit & veggies.  And cheese (mostly from sheep's milk)!  Then I walked along the river and through the Queens Garden -- which is very pretty (and the rose gardens smelled beautiful - even with most of the roses past their prime).  I was walking back to the cottage when I walked by the Trolley Derby  --- watched that for awhile -- rather fun.

Weather:  overcast, windy, 65 - 72F
Miles Walked:  6.5

Book/s Read:  The Kept by James Scott.  Yikes -- what a depressing book.  The book had a lot of promise -- well-written -- it held my attention even though it plodded along at points -- stupid ending.  I'm not sure why I bought this book -- I must have read a review somewhere -- I wish I knew where -- so that I could ignore their reviews in the future.

Pic notes:  birds - pied shag, feral muscovy duck

  1. The feral muscovy duck sound more dangerous than it looks--I admit to feeling a little disappointed.

    1. I know -- it should have webbed claws or something. I'll blame it all on Wikipedia. (I guess they were brought to NZ as a domestic animal .. and some escaped and now live in the wild)
