Day 38: Nelson & Upper Moutere

My plan for the day was to go to Abel Tasman National Park -- but when I woke up this morning it was raining -- so scrapped that plan -- and went back to sleep.

The skies started clearing late morning -- so I walked over to the Wednesday Farmers Market (just two blocks from my cottage) and picked up some more pears and cheese.  Small market -- nice selection though (and they had live music).  Stopped at La Gourmandise for lunch -- had a very nice galette (the savory kind).

After  that I went for a drive in the countryside around Upper Moutere --- there are a lot of small boutique vineyards in that area -- stopped in at Neudorf Vineyards to taste some of their wines (and left with a bottle of their Viognier).

On the way back to Nelson, I decided to go to Rabbit Island again -- it has quickly become a favorite spot for me -- beautiful beach and very few people.

Weather:  raining, cloudy, sunny, 56 - 72F
Miles Walked:  3.5
km Driven:  105

Book/s Read:  Through the Evil Days:  A Clare Fergusson and Russ Van Alstyne Mystery by Julia Spencer-Fleming.  This is the 8th book in a series --- first one that I've read.  Very good mystery.  Going to now read the series in order.  (Clare is an Episcopalian priest who's been in the military / Russ is the Chief of Police in some mythical town in upstate NY)

Pic Notes:
  • Pic 3:  the garden at my cottage
  • Pic 5:  cool shop in Upper Moutere -- jams & jellies & a little fabric shop
  • Pic 15:  the bird in this pic was stalking a black-backed gull (pics 16 & 17) --- seemed odd to me -- when I got back to the cottage -- looked the bird up -- found out that the brown bird is an adolescent black-backed gull -- now it all makes sense
  • Pic 18:  oystercatcher with its latest catch
  • Pics 19 & 20:  Nelson beach
  • Pic 21 & 22:  the view to the east of my cottage
